ABOUT MARIA

Every person deserves to be valued, understood, nurtured, and emotionally supported.  I have a passion for empowering children, teens and adults to gain personal insight, overcome challenges, ignite their passion, and maximize skills and talents to reach their goals. I believe that positive changes, no matter how small, may benefit and strengthen the entire family.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate in the State of Washington.  I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and a Master of Arts Degree in Counseling and Psychology with a specialization in Marriage & Family Therapy  from Hope International University; a COAMFTE accredited Christian University in Anaheim, CA.  I moved to Vancouver, Washington in 2016.

My therapeutic approach is largely influenced by my practicum training in graduate school.  During training, I had the opportunity to work with children, adolescents and transitional youth from lower socioeconomic status with a broad range of severe emotional disturbances.  I found these experiences both enriching and rewarding, and they have allowed me to cultivate positive relationships with others who are going through difficulties in life. Being present and curious without judgment is at the core of my work with clients.  My goal for psychotherapy is to help my clients learn to reduce suffering and work towards a higher quality of life.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, working on craft projects, learning new challenging things, photography, cooking, going on short road trips to visit family and friends, exploring new places, and spending time in nature.
